The Rock Doesn't Regret Fast 8 Vin Diesel Comments

Dwayne Johnson made quite a lot of waves earlier in the year while shooting his sequel Fast and Furious 8. He called out some of his co-stars as candy asses in a very public way. And it made headlines for sure. Now, the actor claims that he’s not sorry for what he said at all. And that his tirade actually helped, not hurt, the movie.

Dwayne Johnson is one of the busiest actors on the planet. This past year, he has shot Baywatch, Fast 8 and is currently in production on Jumanji 2. He’ll then move into the video game adaptation Rampage. But he always finds time to stay connected with his fans on social media. While shooting Fast 8, he used this platform to call out one of his co-stars for their lazy and disruptive behavior.

At the time he made the comments on Instagram, the subject of his wrath went unnamed. And many speculated that he was referring to cast newcomer Scott Eastwood, son of legendary actor and director Clint Eastwood. But that couldn’t have been further from the truth, as the Rock later pointed out that Scott is a true gentlemen. In actuality, Dwayne Johnson was directly referring to the main star of the Fast and Furious franchise Vin Diesel. Here’s what he had to say at the time.

“This is my final week of shooting #FastAndFurious8. There’s no other franchise that gets my blood boiling more than this one. An incredible hard working crew. UNIVERSAL has been great partners as well. My female co-stars are always amazing and I love ’em. My male co-stars however are a different story. Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chicken shit to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I’m not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling – you’re right. Bottom line is it’ll play great for the movie and fits this Hobbs character that’s embedded in my DNA extremely well. The producer in me is happy about this part. Final week on FAST 8 and I’ll finish strong.”

At the time, it seemed odd to watch The Rock call out an A-list actor. Especially since Dwayne Johnson is known as one of the nicest guys in Hollywood. After it was all said and done, many believed that this was actually a WWE stunt that would see The Rock take on Vin Diesel in the ring next year to promote Fast 8. If that is true, it hasn’t been announced in any official capacity.

The Rock has absolutely no regrets about what he said. Though he says Universal Pictures, the studio behind Fast 8, didn’t care for his actions. He says this to the LA Times about his beef with Vin Diesel, which he apparently isn’t quite over yet.

“I was very clear with what I said. I’ve been in the game a long time. Would Universal [Pictures] have preferred that didn’t happen? Sure, we talked about it. The irony is after that and as they do their tracking and all their analysis, the interest shot through the roof to a whole other level.”

So, as you can see, this definitely wasn’t bad for the franchise. Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs and Vin Diesel’s Toretto have tussled on the big screen before. And it looks like they will fight again. It appears that this will be something to cheer on when the movie arrives in theaters next April. And don’t worry, everyone is still coming back for Fast 9 and Furious 10, with both sequels already confirmed by Universe.
