Passengers Teaser Arrives, Full Trailer Coming Tomorrow

December is going to be a very good month for sci-fi. Yes, we are getting Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but in the know sci-fi fans are also very much looking forward to Passengers, the largely mysterious sci-fi movie starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence. The mystery is starting to unravel, as we have finally got our first look at some footage.

Earlier today, the Twitter account for Passengers posted a teaser for the first actual trailer, which is going to drop tomorrow. While the tease is only 9 seconds long, it does give us a few good glimpses of what we can expect, such as Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence kissing, a cool looking spaceship and some very intense music. Here is what the tweet said about the footage and the upcoming trailer.

“Tomorrow, every moment counts. Don’t miss #JenniferLawrence and #ChrisPratt in the full #PassengersMovie trailer.”

The story of Passengers takes place on a “luxury interstellar spaceship,” with 5,000 passengers taking a journey to the Homestead II colony, which is conveniently located 120 years away. That being the case, everyone is traveling in suspended animation. Things get tricky when Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence’s characters are mistakenly awakened 90 years too early, they discover that the ship is malfunctioning, putting everyone in danger.

Production took place in Atlanta last year, with Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence somehow squeezing the movie in between other massive blockbusters they are starring in. Passengers is a movie that has reportedly been in the works for more than a decade, with the script winding up on The Black List in 2007. For those who may not know, The Black List is a list of the best un-produced scripts floating around Hollywood. The script was written by Prometheus screenwriter Jon Spaihts. It just took arguably the two of the biggest stars on the planet to finally get the movie made.

Passengers may have some serious star power, but it will be facing some serious competition at the box office. It is opening against the video game adaptation Assassin’s Creed, which also has some star power in the form of Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. It will also be opening just five days after Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which will surely still be raking in big money in its second week. Passengers was directed by Morten Tyldum who directed the Oscar-nominated The Imitation Game. Be sure to check out the first footage from the movie below and stay tuned for the full trailer tomorrow.
