Michael Pena Will Return in Ant-Man and the Wasp

Back in October, Marvel confirmed that they are moving forward with an Ant-Man sequel entitlted Ant-Man and the Wasp, which will be released on July 6, 2018. Due to the title alone, we know that Paul Rudd will be back as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, alongside Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne/Wasp. Aside from those main stars, no other actors have been confirmed yet, until today, when a new report confirmed that Michael Pena will be back as Luis.

The news comes buried at the end of a story from The Hollywood Reporter, which reveals that Michael Pena will be back for Ant-Man 2, which starts filming next year. As for other cast members, Michael Douglas teased in a November interview he would come back as Hank Pym for Ant-Man 2, under one condition, that he won’t be given a lot of “expositional dialogue” in this follow-up. During that interview, he also teased that he was “sure” Michael Pena would be back as Luis.

In Ant-Man, Luis was part of a trio of low-rent criminals, along with T.I.’s Dave and David Dastmalchian’s Kurt, who helped Scott Lang steal the Ant-Man suit from Hank Pym. This trio, particularly Luis, helped provided a lot of comic relief in the heist thriller, which earned $180.2 million domestic and $519.4 million worldwide, from a $160 million budget. We’ll have to wait and see if T.I. and David Dastmalchian will be back as Dave and Kurt, but with Luis back in the mix, it certainly seems likely.

Just last week, Paul Rudd revealed that the treatment for Ant-Man 2 has been completed, as they begin work on the actual script. Paul Rudd is co-writing with Ant-Man production writers Gabriel Ferrari and Andrew Barrer, working off a treatment they all co-wrote with Adam McKay. Peyton Reed is returning to direct, with Kevin Feige producing.

Back in June, a profile on actress Sharon Stone revealed that she has signed on to play a mysterious character in a Marvel movie, with many speculating that she will portray the original Wasp, Janet Van Dyne, Hope’s mother. It has never been confirmed if the actress has joined the cast, but Evangeline Lilly revealed a few months earlier that she wanted Michelle Pfieffer to play her on-screen mom. As for Michael Pena, he will next be seen in War On Everyone alongside Alexander Skarsgard, Collateral Beauty with Will Smith and in the remake of CHiPs, with Dax Shepard.
