A judge has sentenced Meek Mill to three months of house arrest for violating his probation. The rapper, real name Robert Rihmeek Williams, was busted for repeatedly changing his court-approved travel schedule and going to the American Music Awards in Los Angeles with girlfriend Nicki Minaj without his probation officer’s permission.
On Friday, Meek was sentenced during a hearing in his native Philadelphia, Penn. He will not be allowed to work during the three-month sentence and will only be allowed to leave his property for charity work and community service.
Meek must turn himself in to authorities on March 1 to receive an ankle bracelet.
Common Pleas Judge Genece Brinkly will reevaluate Meek’s position after 90 days and determine whether he should serve additional time under house arrest.
In addition, Meek will spend an extra six years on probation for drug and gun charges stemming from 2008.
According to TMZ, Minaj accompanied Meek to his sentencing. In December she testified on his behalf during his probation hearing. She said at the time: “He’s not perfect but I can’t believe how much he’s changed.”
Minaj also claimed she was going to help her boyfriend fulfill his community service requirements.
Meek also defended himself, saying: “I’m not a gangsta,” he declared. “I’m not a criminal… I have my queen, Nicki, now. I’m trying to do better and feel like I can be the best rapper out there.”
