Jack Black Thinks Robin Williams Would Be Proud of Jumanji 2

Ever since New Line’s Jumanji 2 was announced, fans haven’t been sure what to call it. Back in August, before production started, Dwayne Johnson revealed that this story is not a reboot, but “rather a continuation of the awesome Jumanji story.” Production wrapped just a few days ago, with Jack Black recently spotted at The Grove in Los Angeles, where he gave a few more details about this comedy adventure. When asked about this highly-anticipated sequel, the actor revealed that the late Robin Williams would have been proud, while calling this version a “revitalization” of the story.

“Robin would be proud. I love Robin in Jumanji, the original, so we had big shoes to fill. But I think we did a good job. It’s different, you know? It’s not a sequel. It’s a revitalization.”

The actor was spotted at The Grove by TMZ, and while Black didn’t divulge any plot details, he did add that he hopes this movie is “as fun for the audience as it was for us to make it. We had a blast.” Dwayne Johnson took to his Instagram account last week to share one final video from the set, while sharing his thoughts on Jumanji 2 as production wrapped. Here’s what he had to say below.

“That’s an official wrap on #JUMANJI! (just wait to the end of this to hear what @jackblack felt he had to announce;). As I’m saying in this vid, I can’t express my gratitude enough for our incredibly hard working and brilliant production crew – the backbone and spirit of our business. THANK YOU and look forward to seeing you all down the road. We made a great movie that honors and evolves the cool and dangerous #Jumanji mythology – one that that I think the world’s gonna dig. And finally, like so many of us, Robin Williams was a hero of mine and one of the main reasons why I signed on and wanted to make and produce this film. Pay homage to the legend of “Alan Parrish” (name of Robin’s character in the original). Thank you to the William’s family for their support. I truly believe we made something you guys will be proud of. Until then that’s a DJ wrap. And to quote ol’ Luke the Drifter, Hank Williams himself… If the good Lord’s willin’ and the creek don’t rise, I’ll see you down the road.”

The cast for Jumanji 2 also includes Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas, Rhys Darby and Morgan Turner. Sony recently pushed Jumanji from a May 2017 release date to December 22, where it will go up against Paramount’s Downsizing, Universal’s Pitch Perfect 3, 20th Century Fox’s The Story of Ferdinand, The Weinstein Company’s The Six Billion Dollar Man and an untitled PG-13 comedy from Warner Bros. Take a look at the TMZ video below, along with Dwayne Johnson’s final video from the Jumanji set.
